ADFS Login Failed in Rich Client

If you are logging into Rich Client and getting a “login failed error”, check the security_authen.log file located on the Landmark server at LASYSDIR/security_authen.log.  If this file contains the error “ADFS login failed. The call to ADFS Login page was not successful”, you can configure your Rich Client installation to use an ADFS login.

These steps can be performed in the LPA Web App, or you can get to Rich Client using the command line utility.  To do this, log into the Landmark server as the Lawson user.  Open a Landmark command window, and type the command “canvas64 gen”.  This task is performed in the GEN data area.

In the search window, type “IRC” and select “IRC Install Specifications.”

The default specifications for Rich Client 64 should look something like this:

Modify the specifications to:

  1. -s
  2. $specfile.href.url$:$specfile.version$
  3. -iw
  4. -m
  5. $com.lawson.url.protocol$://$com.lawson.url.host$:$com.lawson.url.port$
  6. <your data area>

Download Rich Client again, and you will be presented with a new style of login page:

Virtual reality and training in the post-Covid era

In recent years, virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR) and artificial intelligence (AI) have emerged as important tools for healthcare. Especially in this Covid-ridden society, these technologies have been utilized more than ever, especially in healthcare employee training. Healthcare Global Magazine shares an article, written by Leila Hawkins, about the emergence of VR in the Covid and post-Covid era. According to the article, the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) has noted as far back as 2010 that it was better for students to be trained by simulation tools before attempting any procedures on patients. That way there would be reduced errors and better safety measures for students in training. Founder and CEO of Vitri Dr. Alex Young explains how VR training is frequently used to train surgeons and soft skills training for health professionals at all stages. “We are more problem-focused than fixed to a specific specialty or type of technology, with an emphasis on capturing unique data insights that would be otherwise impossible with traditional training,” says Young. “Ultimately, the goal is to improve human performance and therefore patient safety, and organizations are more focused on this through the lens of COVID and the need for remote training to help employees now and in the future.”

Document Express error 52 – Bad file name or number

You may be running Document Express with Lawson and Citrix Storefront and encountering this error. Before you jump to conclusions that this issue is related to Lawson or Citrix security, check these steps below.

 

The user is likely experiencing this error when trying to import invoices into Document express.

  1. Make sure that all application related access is set in MHC.
  2. Verify the user has Active Directory access to the import routine folder on the server where the invoices are loaded in from Lawson.
  3. Lastly, verify the user has access to the import routine directly from Windows folder explorer. This path can be found in the import routine itself in document express.
  4. Copy the import routine path, paste it into Windows folder explorer to verify access.

Conclusion: When the user imports the invoice in doc express, it downloads the file locally and opens it. Verify both channels are open for the user.

Hotel Alhambra Palace Checks in with Infor for World-Class Customer Service

Hotel Alhambra Palace in Granada, Spain, has chosen to implement Infor Hospitality Cloud solutions throughout all operations, including front of house, housekeeping, restaurants and conference bookings. The deal includes Infor Hospitality Management Solution (HMS), Infor Sales and Catering, and Infor Table Management. Per the press release, Infor software will replace an on-premises legacy system that can no longer support the plans for growth at Hotel Alhambra Palace. One of the earliest anticipated benefits of the new application will be faster access to more comprehensive information and operational data, as well as new contactless processes such as mobile check-in. Hotel Alhambra Palace will be able to continue improving customer service and ensure staff are deployed to the highest value activities.

Building a solid technology foundation enables transformation

John P. Donohue, Penn Medicine’s Vice President of Information Services Enterprise Services, shares a article on Healthcare IT News on the importance of building a solid and transformative technology foundation. He compares the importance of building a physical foundation for a house or large building as the structural strength in technology sectors. This foundation should be able to support long term stability for a company as well as future changes and needs. Donohue says IT professionals need to be ahead of the game in terms of establishing and maintaining the capabilities of their technology foundation. There are two areas he thinks IT professionals needs to consider to achieve this.

  • Wireless capabilities. Donohue states, “People who have not designed and implemented wireless infrastructures with a scalable and extensible architecture are seeing the need to delay projects while they do forklift upgrades to their WiFi technologies. Asking your operational folks to delay projects while you enhance your foundational technologies is an unsurmountable feat.”
  • Information security. Donohue states, “As we install more Internet of Devices in our environments, our vulnerability landscape grows. We need strong foundational technologies in our information security toolset that can scale and grow to meet the dynamics of the threats.”

With COVID-19 hitting the economy this past spring, this tested the capabilities and foundations of many companies and their tech sectors. Donohue reminds us that growth transformation will always happen, so businesses must have a better designed technology foundation that is stable enough to weather any changes.

Certificate Error When Loading Rich Client

If you launch Rich Client and get a certificate error (particularly after a new Landmark install or update), here are the steps to update your IRC certificate.

Here is a sample error message that you might receive before you are even presented with a login screen:

You can resolve this issue either in the LPA web administration tool, or you can log into your IPA server as the lawson user, open a Landmark command window, and type the command “canvas64 gen”.  These tasks are performed in the GEN data area.

In the search box, type “IRC” and select “IRC Trusted Certificates”

Go to Actions > Create

Add the certificate by file.  Browse to a previously exported certificate (Base 64 cer format) and click the save button.  The certificate details will be displayed if the certificate is valid.

Real-Time Location Systems applications grow with hospital data needs

A real-time location system (RTLS) helps hospital and healthcare facilities professionals track certain key assets and information and save time, money and patients’ lives. While primarily used for asset management, these systems are expanding to more areas such as contact tracing (which is helpful during this pandemic). “The number of hospital applications that integrate with RTLS technology is growing rapidly, expecially with it’s increased interest relating to infection control during this COVID-19 pandemic… RTLSs make it easy for hospital teams to quickly conduct inventory checks in pharmacies and supply rooms where items need to be frequently counted, inspected and rotated. RTLSs also play a role in smaller, offsite health care facilities, a fast-growing market segment.”

“Data capture is a key capability of the latest RTLSs, allowing hospitals to inform a variety of operational improvements. Systems can be used to ensure that assets are available when needed and help prevent overspending on unnecessary equipment. RTLS data also can be used to optimize a facility’s workforce, ensuring that the hospital is properly staffed.”

Many key tech players have plaforms for RTLSs. Among them are Midmark, CenTrak, Sonitor, Stanley Healthcare, Infor, Vizzia Technologies, Zebra Technologies, and GE Healthcare. One of the key resources for many of their platforms is tracking and preventing COVID-19 in hospitals.

Infor Poised to Support $8.5B Digital Supply Chain Market in META

A recent press release shares that distributors and logistics providers in the Middle East will need to adopt vertical-specific digital platforms if they are to succeed in an industry roiled by changing dynamics, shifting customer habits, and changes wrought by COVID-19, according to a new white paper by IDC sponsored by Infor. A very important consideration for players in the distribution business is to choose vertical-specific digital platforms, states white paper author Jebin George, IDC program manager of industry solutions. “IDC believes that distribution organizations that use integrated platforms and cloud-based, vertical-specific applications will be the most likely to digitally transform themselves in three to five years and emerge as true digital pioneers,” George says. Database File Space Issues That Manifest in IPA Errors

We recently noticed some strange behavior in IPA. All of our work units were stuck in “Ready” status, and the few Work Units that actually had errors indicated a java heap space issue. Some of the work units weren’t showing that a log was being created. We were also getting a generic error when uploading IPA processes.

It did seem like there was some kind of space or memory error. A reboot of the server didn’t address the issue. We were investigating and just happened to look at the command line window that opens up with IP Designer. That was the only place where saw a useful error message. It indicated that the database file had run out of space.

The resolution was to increase the “Maxsize” property on the IPA database file. In SQL Server, this is in the Database properties, Files tab.
