Lawson Business Intelligence – Increasing limit for report files

You may have saw our article “How to load bursting rights into Lawson Business Intelligence” and encountered an error that your CSV file “exceeds the limit”.

To resolve this:

  1. Go to the Reporting Services server and open <application server directory>\ReportingServices\erswar-XXXX\
  2. Find and open the ersImportRights.jsp file in a text editor (backup before editing)
  3. Edit the following line:
    • ERSFileUploadRequest multi=new ERSFileUploadRequest(request,”.”, 1024*1024);
  4. Multiply the 1024*1024 to the number of bytes you want to increase limit to. If you want it to be 10 MB max, the line would look like the below:
  5. Save the .jsp file
  6. Restart your app server, Websphere etc.
  7. Try importing the file again.

Your ERP data is dirty: Here’s how to fix it

One of the biggest issues a company can face is a clutter of data. More so, “dirty data” can take up too much storage space in your servers. When you place dirty or corrupt data into your enterprise resource planning (ERP) software, you will not see the results you want in any area of business. Tech expert Chris Smith shares an article on KnowTechie.com on how to rid your ERP software of dirty data. Smith states, “No matter where you are using data or what kind of information you are looking to store for the future, you will need to ensure you have the best chance of success for your ERP management plans using inventory optimization software.” If you want to introduce ERP into your business you want the data you have assembled to be accurate and ready for use as soon as your new software is in place. Installed correctly, your ERP will have accurate information readily available all the time. If your data is dirty, you will find your software not working correctly. Smith suggests one solution to avoid coming across dirt data that would potentially corrupt your new ERP software is to only accept information from reliable sources. “In some cases, you will find your business working with partners who will introduce data to your database that has not been verified by your team or software,” Smith says. “It is usually best to avoid the use of this form of data at all costs because of the problems you will face when you are trying to eliminate dirty data from your system. Purchased or obtained data is often incomplete and does not provide you with the accuracy you need and expect for your database.” Another solution is to turn to artificial intelligence (AI) to weed out corrupt databases in your ERP software. “Artificial Intelligence and machine learning are among the most impressive options for handling your dirty data and its effects on your ERP technology,” says Smith.

One of the biggest problems your ERP technology faces is how best to identify duplicates and copied information that has been made available to your platform. Duplicates can cause chaos when you are looking for the most accurate database, but using AI in your business can have a positive effect on this area of your company. By allowing machines to learn about your business and handling the time-consuming role of maintaining your database there will be fewer problems for you to face with data issues.

Norsk Kylling Designs Future of Food with Infor

Norway-based poultry producer Norsk Kylling has selected the Infor EAM enterprise asset management solution to be implemented at a new 40,000-square-meter state-of-the-art factory in Orkanger to support higher equipment availability, reduced costs and tighter inventory management for the food company. Per the press release, Norsk Kylling’s new facility will represent best practices and innovation in food production, encompassing the highest animal welfare and environmental standards, and supporting the circular economy. By selecting an ERP platform with greater control over production and the value chain, Norsk Kylling’s maintenance system requirements could limit waste and reduce costs in the long run. Technical manager Ulf Jensen says of the collaboration, “In addition to cost savings, a comprehensive view of equipment status, and higher availability, Infor EAM will also give us greater control over spare parts and stock… The automatic ordering capability within Infor EAM will help us to optimize availability without incurring unnecessary costs.”

Infor EAM will be implemented by Infor partner Prevas, and is expected to go live upon facility completion in spring 2021.

3 Reasons Machine Shops are Paying Attention to ERP

Peter Zelinski, Editor-in-Chief of Modern Machine Shop, shares his thoughts in an article on the benefits of utilizing ERP systems in manufacturing. Enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems are software that organizes the different operations of a manufacturing company so that these operations can work smoothly together. Zelinski notes an increase attention to ERP this year, and concludes with three possible reasons:
  1. Acquisition brings systemization in its wake. “Shops are being bought by other companies, often to be merged into larger manufacturing organizations. When this happens, the context that needs to give way is the shop’s tribal knowledge. ERP implementation, or the shift to greater reliance on ERP, is a natural means to a more transparent process.”
  2. Slowdowns free attention for disruption. “Shops have varied this year in their activity levels, but for some, business has softened. The quieter time can bring opportunity. Having some attention free, and having margin in terms of the availability of people’s time and equipment capacity, provides the chance to make messy changes. And commitment to ERP is a change that is inherently messy, because it involves changing individual work habits that have come to feel comfortable.”
  3. Hiring is not getting any easier. “The seeming shortage of skilled employees is a problem that will not go away, and the special uncertainty of 2020 only complicates the matter. A shop now is liable to be reluctant to staff up even if could easily do so. The tools within a good ERP system, perhaps the very system the shop has been underusing all this time, provide the means of holding staff constant but allow each staff member’s time and attention to be used more effectively.”

Zelinski concludes with how much impact the current economic situation is to our decisions to use such systems like ERP. “Working in the time of COVID-19 has reminded us of the value of people, and it has taught us we have useful digital tools for connecting and collaborating that were just waiting for us to need them.”

Cisco VPN not connecting – simple fix without a reboot

We provide several customers with our MSP services in Lawson and often are switching between several VPNs throughout the day. Our VPNs are fairly reliable but every once in a while, they fail to connect and only a reboot seems to resolve. Unfortunately, this means closing all of our current tasks and documents that are open and essentially stepping out of our work flow.

 

Follow these steps below to resolve your CISCO VPN connection issue:

  1. Close CISCO VPN by right clicking it in the bottom right Windows tray bar
  2. Open windows task manager with CTRL + SHIFT + ESCAPE
  3. Go to services and find vpnagent

  4. Right click it and select STOP, wait for it to stop completely.
  5. Right click it again and select START
  6. Open Cisco VPN again and try to connect once more. That’s it!

If you’re still having issues, it may be the VPN server you’re connecting to in which you’ll have to reach out to a dedicated Windows team for that client. Good luck!

 

Russell Roof Tiles Upgrades and Extends with Infor

Russell Roof Tiles (RRT) recently extended its investment in Infor technology and completed its upgrade to a multi-tenant instance of Infor CloudSuite Industrial. With a cloud upgrade, this will provide the potential for RRT to reduce their budget within accounts administration and invoice processing, removing the need for third-party integration software. Per the press release, RRT has made substantial time savings throughout invoice filing and proof-of-delivery processes as well as enabling complete, remote customer access to orders and account information including computer-aided design (CAD) drawings. Long-range production planning and maintenance management have also helped automate the purchasing of parts to boost efficiencies and reduce downtime on the shop floor.

Infor Develops Contactless Ordering Solution for Hospitality Industry

Infor recently introduced “Infor OrderNow”, a new contactless ordering solution to help the hospitality industry better navigate the operational challenges in the current pandemic, while supporting the dining revenue stream in the future. This application is an extension of Infor’s hospitality suite, namely Infor POS, providing an adaptation of changes in customer purchase behavior that also provides organizations with a tool to address declining revenue challenges. Per the press release, Infor OrderNow’s responsive web application is easy to deploy in a wide variety of hospitality industry segments. It is easily embeddable in a customer’s own web environment, and because an app download is not required, it is quickly and easily adopted by guests for immediate uptake.
