10 Ways To Better Anticipate Cyber Threats

News

It’s 2025 and cyber threats are increasing their intensity more than ever. So how can we be better prepared for them? David Monnier, Forbes Council Member and Chief Evangelist and Fellow at Team Cymru, shares an article that outlines strategies for organizations to improve their cybersecurity and anticipate threats more effectively. As cyber threats grow in intensity and frequency, security teams, particularly CISOs, must be prepared to mitigate risks. Key recommendations include:

  1. Continuous Security Education: Ongoing training for security teams on emerging threats and the best use of new tools.
  2. Utilizing Threat Intelligence: Ensuring threat intelligence is timely and relevant to the organization’s needs.
  3. Adopting New Technologies: Staying aware of technologies like AI that adversaries may use, while leveraging them for defense.
  4. Implementing Zero Trust: Using initiatives like multifactor authentication to create a secure environment across the organization.
  5. Regular Security Assessments: Continuously evaluating the organization’s security posture and attack surface.
  6. Incident Response Planning: Having a practiced response plan in place for fast and effective action in the event of an attack.
  7. Collaboration and Sharing: Engaging with industry peers and participating in groups to share insights and threats.
  8. Board-Level Collaboration: Aligning cybersecurity priorities with business goals at the board level.
  9. Automation: Using automation to manage security events and reduce analyst workload.
  10. Creating a Security Culture: Ensuring all employees contribute to the organization’s security.

These strategies help security teams anticipate and respond effectively to cyber threats, fostering a proactive and resilient approach to cybersecurity.
