Health care enrollment rises; more young adults sign up
3.3 million Americans have enrolled in health coverage on state and federal health insurance marketplaces as of Feb. 1. Young adults(18-34) accounted for 27 percent of the sign-ups for January which is up from 24 percent from October to December. 318,000 young adults signed up in January alone compared to just 489,000 between October and December
Young adults signing up are critical to Obamacare because they are generally healthier and cheaper to insure which keeps the premiums affordable. Administration officials estimated that new marketplace plan members need to be accounted for by 40% of people under the ages of 35 to offset the coverage costs for older plan members whom require more medical assistance.
